Lightening the Shadow of Abuse Survey

June 13th, 2018 by

Can you help us Gather Information about your Experiences

The team at King’s are keen to hear the view of female survivors of childhood sexual abuse who have had children and those who have not yet, but think they may like to at some stage.

The Survivors’ Trust has been working with a research team from King’s College, London led by Dr Elsa Montgomery in the production of an online learning resource. This resource will help prepare female survivors of childhood sexual abuse for pregnancy and birth.

The team has already conducted focus groups but is keen to hear the views of more survivors.

It is now possible to participate either by completing a questionnaire or by speaking to one of the research team by telephone or WhatsApp. Please be assured that confidentiality and anonymity for participants is of utmost importance to us.  More information is available via the following link to the Survivors’ Trust Website.

We know that pregnancy and birth are times of great change for any woman but they can be particularly challenging for survivors of abuse. At present, there are no resources that can help them to think through the issues, learn of the experiences of other survivors and prepare themselves for the emotions of pregnancy, birth and motherhood – including the potential resurfacing of feelings related to their abuse.

This work is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is an exciting opportunity for researchers and survivors to work together to produce the much-needed resource.
